Alvarez & Marsal hires Gary Rahl and Joseph Halverson as MDs in energy practice
Alvarez & Marsal, a global management consultancy, has hired Gary Rahl and Joseph Halverson as managing directors in its energy practice.
Rahl has over 25 years of experience in management consulting, with a specialization in commercial energy and transportation businesses. He has led industry engagements in cyber defense, utility system transformation, and energy technology transformation, among other areas.
Rahl currently focuses on public-private collaborations in clean energy, advising on areas such as funding, renewables performance improvement, grid modernization, industrial decarbonation, and transportation and building electrification.
He joins Alvarez & Marsal from Deloitte Consulting, where he spent five years as a managing director and was a member of the sustainability, climate, and equity leadership team. Before that, he spent 22 years with Booz Allen Hamilton, serving as an EVP and leader of the commercial energy and transportation businesses.
Before entering consulting, Rahl was a lieutenant in the US Navy.
He has a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Halverson has over a decade of experience in management consulting and engineering consulting. He has extensive experience advising oil, mining, and industrial clients on operating model changes, operational improvements, and upskilling technical talent.
Halverson joins Alvarez & Marsal from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he spent nine years, latterly as a partner. Before his tenure at BCG, Halverson spent four years as a consultant at environmental specialist Trinity Consultants.
He has an MBA and JD from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
