Strata9 hires John Barnshaw as managing director

Strata9, a management consultancy focusing on the higher education and non-profit sectors, has hired John Barnshaw, PhD, as managing director.

Based in Washington, DC, Barnshaw brings 15 years of experience in higher education, ed-tech, workforce development, and management consulting. He has expertise across strategic planning, product management, and engagement and retention initiatives.

Barnshaw joins Strata9 from Lightcast, a labor marketing analytics software and consulting firm, where he spent two years as a vice president. Before that, he spent four-and-a-half years at Ad Astra, a provider of academic planning and scheduling software, where he was a VP in the education practice.

Earlier in his career, Barnshaw was director of research and public policy at the American Association of University Professors and director of higher education consortia at the University of Delaware.

He has a PhD in sociology from the University of Delaware as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Founded in 2008 and based in Washington, DC, Strata9 provides higher education and non-profit organizations with a range of consulting offerings, including strategic planning, project management, business startup, transformation, interim executive leadership, digital solutions, and cybersecurity.

The boutique firm has 11 employees listed on LinkedIn.
