Karen Rayment and Carlos Turizo join HKA's forensic engineering team

Karen Rayment and Carlos Turizo have joined the US forensic engineering practice of HKA, a risk and disputes consulting firm.

Rayment joins the Tampa, FL office as a director. A forensic electrical engineer with over 16 years of experience in failure analysis engineering, Rayment has expertise in compliance and product safety for consumer electronics, medical devices, data centers, power grid equipment, and sub-sea cables. 

She has supported numerous manufacturers and legal teams with resolving complex engineering issues.

Rayment joins HKA from Amazon Web Services, where she spent the last two years and was a hardware development engineer and senior compliance analyst.

Before that, she was principal regulatory compliance engineer at transportation robotics firm Superpedestrian and VP of safety, quality, and compliance at education firm Lovevery.

Rayment also previously spent seven years with Jensen Hughes, a fire protection and forensic engineering firm, where she was forensics division manager for Northern California.

She has an MBA from California State University, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from San Francisco State University, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.

Turizo joins HKA’s New York office as a director. A forensic structural engineer with over 20 years of experience in construction, engineering, and forensic investigations, Turizo specializes in investigation losses in infrastructure, energy, utility, commercial, and residential. He has served as an expert witness and lead expert in various litigations and arbitrations.

Turizo previously spent two years as an independent consulting expert with HKA. He was previously a managing director at Forensic Engineering and Consulting in Colombia and a managing principal at DeSimone Consulting Engineers in Colombia.

Earlier in his career, Turizo was an engineering manager at TRC Worldwide Engineering.

He has an MBA from Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Central Florida, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the National University of Colombia.
