Berkeley Research Group (BRG), an Emeryville, CA-headquartered management consultancy, has hired Michael Seelhof as a New York-based managing director in its international arbitration and cross-border disputes team.

Seelhof brings more than 30 years of experience in valuation and financial analysis supporting counsel, tribunals, funders, and corporations. He has testified as an expert witness on matters in a broad range of industries, including financial services, energy, infrastructure, and logistics.

Seelhof is one of Who’s Who Legal’s global elite thought leaders in arbitration.

He most recently ran his independent consulting firm, testifying in international arbitrations and commercial disputes in the Americas and EMEA regions.

Between 2014 and 2019, he was a senior energy consultant at economics consultancy Greylock McKinnon Associates.

Earlier in his career, Seelhof spent 17 years at Commerzbank, latterly as global chief operating officer and head of the investment banking division. Before that, he was head of group M&A within the group strategy division.

Seelhof has a master’s degree in engineering and management from MIT and a master’s degree in mathematics from Justus Liebig University Giessen in Germany.

"Michael is another key addition to our growing team as we continue to develop our unparalleled offering. Our clients trust us with their most complex and high-stakes disputes, and Michael's unique blend of expertise further expands our global capabilities," said Daniela Bambaci, co-leader of the cross-border disputes and arbitration practice, BRG.

The practice recently welcomed Manuel Abdala and Pablo Spiller as US-based managing directors.

“I am delighted to join BRG's diverse and talented team and look forward to working with my new colleagues as we continue to build one of the world's foremost cross-border disputes practices," Seelhof said.

BRG advises on disputes and investigations, corporate finance, and performance improvement. The firm has more than 1,300 professionals across offices in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions.
