BRG adds James Toal as director in energy and climate practice

BRG, an Emeryville, CA-headquartered management consulting firm, has hired James Toal as a director in its energy and climate practice in Houston.
In his new role, Toal will advise clients on disputes and transactions across the energy value chain, with a focus on valuation and damages analysis.
He has two decades of experience in energy sector financial disputes and advisory, with deep expertise in performing energy valuations, lost profits analysis, solvency analysis, operational assessments, and risk management.
Toal has provided expert testimony and reports for matters in international, federal, and state courts.
He previously spent 20 years with Alvarez & Marsal, where he was a senior director.
Toal has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Trinity University and is a chartered financial analyst.
“James’s deep understanding of the energy sector will be invaluable as our disputes and advisory clients face increasingly complex challenges requiring sophisticated solutions,” said Chris Goncalves, a managing director and chair of BRG’s energy and climate practice. “His proven success in dispute resolution and valuation will strengthen our advisory services and enhance our ability to address the complex issues impacting our clients.”
BRG was founded in 2010 and has 1,600+ employees across 45 global offices. The firm provides expert and consulting services in disputes and investigations, corporate finance, and performance improvement.
“Joining BRG allows me to work with a talented group of professionals who are committed to providing clients with the highest level of service and insight,” said Toal. “I look forward to leveraging my background in energy-related disputes and transactions to help clients manage their most challenging matters.”
BRG earlier this month welcomed Ai Deng as a managing director in its antitrust and competition group in Washington, DC.
