Mark Israel joins Econic Partners as founding partner

Mark Israel, PhD, has joined economic consulting firm Econic Partners as a founding partner.
Based in Washington, DC, Israel is a leading competition economist with nearly two decades of consulting experience.
He has deep expertise in antitrust and competition economics, industrial organization economics, and applied econometrics. Israel has served as an economic expert in 100+ matters across the US, Canada, and Europe.
He has provided expert testimony on complex antitrust litigations and merger review proceedings across a wide range industries.
Israel has been at Compass Lexecon, the economic consulting unit of FTI Consulting, since 2006. He was previously an associate professor of management and strategy at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Israel has a PhD in economics from Stanford University, a master’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Illinois Wesleyan University.
“Mark is one of the world’s most sought-after competition experts, and his decision to join Econic solidifies our position as a leader among U.S. competition economics practices,” Jonathan Orszag, a founding partner of Econic, said.
Econic launched earlier this year. The Los Angeles-based consulting firm is backed by Goldman Sachs Alternatives and the family offices of economists Robert Willig and Janusz Ordover.
Econic advises on economic issues in antitrust litigation, mergers, and commercial disputes. It has approximately 135 people across locations in LA, the Bay Area, Chicago, Boston, and Washington, DC.
“While I look back on nearly 20 years at Compass Lexecon with only fondness and gratitude, the opportunity to join so many amazing economists, all dedicated to the goal of building the best competition economics practice possible, is too much to pass up,” Israel said. “On a more personal note, my partnership with Jon Orszag is by far the most important relationship of my professional career, and I am thrilled to join him at Econic.”
Econic recently announced the launch of aviation sector and China antitrust practices.
