Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), New York-headquartered management consulting firm, has hired Mark Copeland as a managing director and Marc Siegel as a senior advisor in its global transaction advisory group (TAG) and corporate transactions group (CTG). Both professionals are based in New York.

Copeland brings nearly three decades of global deals experience, having advised private equity and corporates on cross-border transactions, integrations, and divestitures in various sectors.

In his new role, he will work with TAG and CTG leadership on furthering collaborative efforts across key accounts and transaction lifecycles.

Copeland previously spent 26 years with EY, retiring from the Big Four firm in 2023. He served as US West managing partner for strategy and transactions and Charlotte office managing partner, among other senior roles.

Copeland has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from East Carolina University.

Siegel has over 30 years of experience in public accounting, research, and accounting industry regulation and compliance. He is a former member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).

Siegel previously was national office partner at PwC and Americas corporate and ESG reporting thought leader at EY. He began his career at Arthur Andersen, where he was latterly a director.

Siegel has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and is a certified public accountant.

“Nearly 20 years ago, we built Global TAG as a solution to client demand in the private equity space; we then saw a market need for corporate clients – and built and continue to scale an integrated end-to-end M&A solution,” said Paul Aversano, head of TAG and CTG. “A&M already stands apart with our operational, industry, and functional expertise across a globally integrated platform – bringing global market authority like Mark Copeland’s and unrivaled senior counsel like Marc Siegel’s into our ranks allows us even more firepower to bring value creation to clients, no matter the market conditions.”

TAG is the largest transaction advisory practice outside of the Big Four, with 1,000+ professionals in 40 offices globally. Private equity clients account for the overwhelming majority of A&M’s transaction advisory work.

CTG launched last year with the hiring of a number of senior leaders from KPMG’s deal advisory practice.
