Alvarez & Marsal, a New York-headquartered management consulting firm, has hired four managing directors in its US offices: John Arp, Jonathan Ross, Daniel Simon, and Roger Weems.

John Arp (Charlotte, NC) joins A&M's corporate transactions group (CTG). He brings more than 25 years of operations, commercial, corporate strategy, and M&A experience focusing on the agricultural inputs, industrial, and chemical industries.

He most recently was head of KPMG’s US chemicals and materials industry team. Before that, Arp worked at chemical producer BASF, where he served on the leadership team of a business startup in the agricultural division.

He has an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in biological systems engineering from Virginia Tech.

“When we launched CTG in the US a year ago, our objective was simple: build a better solution for corporate clients. Since then, the corporate transactions arena remains ripe with opportunity while growing in complexity amidst continued market uncertainty,” said Paul Aversano, head of A&M’s global transaction advisory group. “As we continue to scale CTG with strategic assertiveness, bringing aboard senior market leaders like John — who share our unwavering commitment to unlocking value for clients — is crucial to cementing our position as the preferred service alternative for corporate and strategic clients.”

Jonathan Ross (Dallas) joins the private equity performance improvement (PEPI) practice. He has over 15 years of technology and M&A experience focusing on maximizing deal value via IT transformations.

Ross has expertise across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and consumer and industrial products.

He previously was a managing director at West Monroe, where he led the technology/office of CIO M&A advisory offerings. Before that, Ross was an SAP consultant at Accenture.

He has a master’s degree in predictive analytics from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in operations management and information systems from Northern Illinois University.

“Jonathan brings the global PE perspective and commercial acuity our clients rely on to ensure their investment decisions and portfolio companies are seamlessly delivering value against shorter timelines,” said Nick Alvarez, head of PEPI. “As commercial risks become increasingly complex, with growing questions about how best to deploy capital, his ability to translate business needs into scalable IT solutions adds significant value. Jonathan’s joining builds on our growth momentum and expands our bench of former operators who understand how to execute with deal-dictated rapidity.”

Daniel Simon (New York) joins tax consulting affiliate A&M Tax as head of the financial services industry practice. He has 20+ years of experience in international tax, capital markets, and financial services tax leadership.

Simon previously was a partner in PwC’s banking and capital markets group, where he focused on structuring global business operations for financial services clients. Before that, he was director for client capital management at Barclays Investment Bank.

Simon has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Florida.

“The addition of Daniel to the Financial Services tax practice represents the latest expression of A&M’s commitment to solve for financial institutions’ multilayered concerns amidst a rapidly evolving marketplace,” said Michael Spellacy, head of the US financial services industry group. “It demonstrates the firm’s entrepreneurial agility to address market needs unmet by traditional accounting and consulting firms.”

Roger Weems (Houston) joins the healthcare industry group. He brings 25 years of experience focusing on helping hospitals and health systems achieve growth and profitability.

Weems has extensive expertise in designing and executing large-scale transformation and turnaround plans for academic medical centers and health systems.

He previously was managing director and chief growth officer at Impact Advisors, where he specialized in health system transformation and growth strategies. Before that, Weems was VP and national market leader for Premier Inc. Earlier in his career, he founded a consultancy focusing on labor optimization and patient throughput, which he sold to Navigant Consulting (now Guidehouse).

Weems has MBA and MHA degrees from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama.

“As providers are increasingly facing pressures with margins, staffing issues and operational hurdles, Roger’s joining further enables us to guide health systems through large, enterprise-wide transformations and turnarounds,” said Martin McGahan, co-head of the healthcare industry group.

A&M provides advisory, business performance improvement, and turnaround management services to companies, investors, and government entities. The firm has more than 11,000 employees across 83 offices on six continents.
