Citrin Cooperman, a New York-headquartered accounting and consulting firm, has acquired Barkin, Perren, Schwager & Dolan LLP (BPSD), a Cleveland-based accounting and consulting firm.

Founded in 1981, BPSD has three partners and 20+ professionals.

Citrin Cooperman’s acquisition of BPSD will expand its presence in Southern California and enhance its capabilities in sectors including entertainment and professional services.

"BPSD is a natural fit for Citrin Cooperman," said Gary Kendall and Aaron Levy, SoCal regional managing partners of Citrin Cooperman Advisors LLC. "Their values, culture, and client-first mindset mirror our own.”

The deal is part of Citrin Cooperman’s ongoing strategy to grow its geographic and industry footprint through targeted acquisitions. The firm has completed over 30 acquisitions since 2019, including HW&Co. earlier this year.

Citrin Cooperman’s swift acquisition pace has been supported by private equity backing. The firm was acquired by New Mountain Capital in 2021 and then sold to a Blackstone-led group of investors earlier this year in a deal valuing the accountancy at over $2 billion.

“Joining Citrin Cooperman marks a new chapter in our firm’s journey," said Scott Perren, partner at BPSD. "We’re proud of what we’ve built and excited to expand our reach and resources while continuing to deliver the personalized service our clients expect."

Citrin Cooperman is one of the 20 largest CPA firms in the US, with over 3,300 professionals and $871 million in annual revenue, according to Inside Public Accounting.
