John Kavanagh joins EisnerAmper as national security director
John Kavanagh, a former FBI assistant director, has joined accounting and consulting firm EisnerAmper as national security director within the risk and compliance services practice.
Based in Philadelphia, Kavanagh brings 35+ years of experience in federal law enforcement, national security, and public sector consulting.
In his new role, he will help clients assess national security and agreements and streamline compliance frameworks to reduce costs. Kavanagh will advise on developing national security strategies as well as negotiating, designing, and overseeing compliance programs for companies under US government mitigation agreements.
Kavanagh spent the last several years as a leader of the CFIUS Monitoring Agency for the Department of Defense. Before that, he spent 22 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he was an assistant director and led investigations and interagency operations across the intelligence and defense communities.
Before joining the FBI, Kavanagh was an assistant district attorney within Westchester County, NY, and an officer in the United States Marine Corps.
He has a juris doctor from Hofstra University and a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University. Kavanagh is a faculty member at Georgetown University and George Washington University, where he teaches courses on national security, intelligence collection, and counterterrorism.
"John’s experience in national security, public sector transformation, and academic leadership makes him an extraordinary addition to our existing RCS practice," said Mark Staley, managing partner of EisnerAmper’s advisory services group. "His insights and leadership will be valuable as we expand our services to meet the evolving needs of clients with interests regulated by the US government."
EisnerAmper has more than 450 partners and 4,500 employees. It is backed by TowerBrook Capital Partners, which invested in the accounting firm in 2021.
The New York-headquartered firm earlier this summer launched a talent solutions offering.
