BRG appoints Rosa Abrantes-Metz as head of digital economy and platform markets
Berkeley Research Group (BRG), an Emeryville, CA-based management consulting firm, has appointed Rosa (Romy) Abrantes-Metz, PhD, as global leader of its digital economy and platform markets practice.
Based in New York, Abrantes-Metz joined BRG in 2023 as a managing director in the antitrust and competition practice. She has more than 20 years of experience as an economist, consultant, and testifying expert focusing on antitrust, securities, and financial regulatory matters.
Abrantes-Metz’s recent work includes testifying on behalf of the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of State’s case against Google in the ad tech sector.
Before joining BRG she was a principal at The Brattle Group and Global Economics Group.
Abrantes-Metz holds a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.
“Romy is a visionary leader whose expertise sits squarely at the intersection of data, economics and regulatory strategy," said David Sunding, PhD, vice chairman and leader of BRG’s global economics, disputes, and investigations business line. "Her ability to bridge complex economic analysis with real-world implications for businesses and regulators alike makes her the ideal person to lead this next phase of the practice’s evolution."
Abrantes-Metz succeeds David Evans, PhD, who launched the digital economy and platform markets practice. He will remain at BRG as a managing director.
The practice advises law firms, technology firms, and government agencies on issues in platform economics, digital competition, data analytics, and AI.
“The digital economy continues to redefine how markets function and how regulators respond," said Abrantes-Metz. "BRG’s deep bench of testifying experts, data scientists and strategists enables us to help clients navigate these shifts with rigor and foresight. I’m honored to lead this exceptional team as we continue building on the foundation David Evans established."
BRG was founded in 2010 and has 1,600+ employees across 40+ global offices. The firm provides expert and consulting services in disputes and investigations, corporate finance, and performance improvement.
