HKA hires Zachary De Herrera as director in forensic engineering

HKA, a risk and disputes consulting firm, has hired Zachary De Herrera as a director in its forensic engineering, architectural, and scientific practice.

Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, De Herrera is a professional engineer with 23 years of construction and engineering experience focusing on oil and gas, utilities, and commercial projects in the US.

He has expertise in managing and assessing power systems, industrial controls, and regulatory compliance, as well as conducting failure diagnostics and forensic engineering investigations.

During his career, De Herrera has supervised electrical reliability and instrumentation teams at major refineries, managed multimillion-dollar capital projects, and investigated complex electrical system failures. He has also led emergency response efforts after infrastructure fires, conducted arc flash investigations, and assisted in preparing expert testimony for OSHA-related inquiries.

De Herrera joins HKA from Rimkus, an engineering and technical consulting firm. Before that, he held electrical engineer roles at CVR Energy, PNM Resources, and Western Refining.

De Herrera has an MBA, master’s degree in electrical engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University.

“We’re excited to welcome Zachary De Herrera to our team,” said Michael Griffin, partner, head of forensic technical services, Americas. “Zac’s extensive background in electrical engineering and his hands-on experience in forensic investigations bring a new level of depth to our capabilities.”

HKA has more than 1,100 people across 45 offices in 17 countries. The UK-headquartered consulting firm delivers services in risk mitigation, dispute resolution, expert witness, and litigation support. The firm focuses on the construction and energy industries.

HKA has 20 offices in the United States.

“I’m honored to join HKA and contribute to its industry-leading practice,” said De Herrera. “I’ve seen firsthand how technical insight is critical to resolving complex construction and engineering challenges. I look forward to working with our clients to deliver clarity, precision, and trusted expertise.”
