L.E.K. Consulting hires Michael Retterath as managing director in performance improvement
L.E.K. Consulting, a Boston-headquartered strategy consulting firm, has hired Michael Retterath as a managing director in its healthcare and life sciences performance improvement practice.
Based in New York, Retterath brings 25+ years of experience as a senior executive and strategy consultant in biopharma, medtech, and healthcare services. He has deep expertise across portfolio strategy, capability building, operating model redesign, performance improvement programs and post-merger integration.
Retterath most recently spent five years with Spark Therapeutics, joining the life sciences firm after its December 2019 acquisition by Roche. At Spark, Retterath served as chief strategy officer and chief financial officer, leading a major cost initiative that delivered more than $200-million in operating expense savings. He also oversaw a multi-year portfolio review and an organizational transformation to align Spark with Roche’s strategic priorities.
Before that, Retterath spent a decade as a partner at Bain & Company and a decade as a partner at Monitor Group (now Monitor Deloitte). Earlier in his career, Retterath held executive roles in the life sciences industry, serving as EVP for R&D and marketing at Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur and director at Boehringer Mannheim (now Roche).
He has an MBA from INSEAD and a master’s degree in molecular biology and a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
