David Sandberg joins CRA's Insurance Economics practice
Boston-headquartered economic, financial, and management consultancy Charles River Associates has expanded its Insurance Economics practice with the addition of actuarial expert David K. Sandberg as a senior consultant. Sandberg has over 35 years of experience in the life, pension, and health insurance industries.
David K. Sandberg’s deep expertise in life and annuity spans product development, financial reporting, risk management, legal and compliance, and capital and regulatory standards. He also has experience in product management and investment strategies, reinsurance, GAAP and statutory reporting, and the valuation of insurance policies and pension liabilities.
In his new role as senior consultant in the Insurance Economics practice, Sandberg will support insurers, regulators, and legislators on matters related to management, insurance products, litigation, and regulation. CRA’s insurance consultants provide advisory services ranging from facts-based analysis and recommendations to expert testimony and litigation support.Before joining CRA, Sandberg was VP and Corporate Actuary at Minneapolis-based Allianz Life, where he worked for nearly two decades. Before that, he was VP and Appointed Actuary at LifeUSA for ten years, before that insurance company was acquired by Allianz in 1999. Sandberg has also held actuarial roles with Lone Star Life Insurance, Dorth Coombs Insurance Agency, and Southwestern Life Insurance.

Sandberg has also played a significant role in the professional and public policy issues surrounding insurance through his work with actuarial associations. He was previously the president of the American Academy of Actuaries, and is a current board member of the Society of Actuaries. Sandberg has also written frequently for professional publications and has presented to numerous regulatory bodies.He holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from Brigham Young University.
In other CRA hiring news, the firm bolstered its Forensic Services practice with two additions earlier this year. Kevin Bennett, a seasoned forensic accounting and investigations consultant, joined the firm’s Chicago office as a vice president in the Forensic Services practice. Before that, cybersecurity expert Geoff Fisher joined as a vice president at CRA’s Boston headquarters.
