Maine Pointe management completes buyout from SGS

Maine Pointe, a Charlotte, NC-headquartered supply chain and operations consultancy, today announced a management buyout of the firm from SGS, a Geneva-based testing and certification services firm.

SGS in 2019 acquired a majority stake in Maine Pointe, which was founded in 2004. Founder and CEO Steven Bowen stayed on with SGS until 2023, when the Swiss firm acquired the remaining 40% of Maine Pointe.

Maine Pointe will once again be an independent firm, owned by a management team led by Joseph Esteves, CEO. Esteves joined Maine Pointe in 2013 as a consultant and was named CEO in 2024 after Bowen’s departure.

“This transaction provides a positive path forward for both organizations and enables each company to focus on its strategic priorities. We wish Maine Pointe and its management team continued success,” said Géraldine Picaud, CEO of SGS, a 100,000-person multinational firm. 

Maine Pointe in a press release said it will provide full continuity in its existing client teams, contractual commitments, performance guarantees, and its proprietary methodology “Total Value Optimization.” TVO is when an organization can dynamically anticipate and meet demand through the synchronization of its buy-make-move-fulfill supply chain – delivering the greatest value to customers and investors at the lowest cost to the business.

“Our relationship with SGS was an important and positive chapter in Maine Pointe’s growth, and we are grateful for the support, global perspective, and opportunities it provided,” said Esteves. “As an independent company, we can now move faster, invest more aggressively in AI and digital innovation, expand our world-class talent base, and stay completely focused on one thing: helping our clients drive rapid, measurable results.”

Maine Pointe in a press release said that it is rebuilding itself around AI, embedding it into operations and every client engagement.

Previously headquartered in Boston, Maine Pointe is now based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The firm – which has 130+ employees listed on LinkedIn – also has locations in Stamford, Connecticut; Dublin, Ireland; and Singapore.
