AlixPartners adds John Loehr as managing director in automotive and industrial practice

Automotive and industrial transformation expert and former McKinsey partner John Loehr has joined global management consultancy AlixPartners as managing director.

Loehr, who has more than 27 years of experience in the automotive, heavy vehicle, industrial, electronics, and distribution industries, will be based out of AlixPartners’ Chicago office. As a managing director in the automotive and industrial practice, Loehr will leverage his extensive expertise to assist clients in strategy and transformation, diagnosing deficiencies, designing competitive operating models, and executing programmatic changes to boost performance.

With a research science background, Loehr has worked across a variety of products and industries, including Tier 1 automotive components, vehicle powertrains, commercial HVAC products, construction machines, freight railcars, and other electronic and high-tech products.

Loehr holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, as well as master’s degrees in electrical engineering and physics from the same institution. He has authored numerous scientific journal articles, as well as the book “Physics of Strained Quantum Well Lasers.”

Before joining AlixPartners, Loehr was a partner at strategy firm McKinsey & Company for five years. Prior to that, he spent 14 years at strategy firm Booz & Company (now PwC’s Strategy&), where he was a partner in the firm’s engineered products and services practice. He also led Booz’s global innovation practice.

Loehr also spent nine years at the United States Air Force Laboratory as technical director, a position in which he oversaw research in electronic and optoelectronic devices such as semiconductor lasers and optical detectors.
