FTI Consulting expands in Europe with Andersch acquisition
Washington, DC-based business advisory firm FTI Consulting has put the wheels in motion to acquire German restructuring advisory firm Andersch. The deal will close in the third quarter of 2019.
The acquisition will allow FTI Consulting to strengthen its restructuring and business transformation capabilities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and across industries including automotive, shipping, energy, and real estate. Approximately 90 consultants, including seven managing directors, will join FTI’s team offering strategic communications, economic consulting, and construction solutions to businesses and organizations in Germany. They will work with FTI under a co-brand, as part of the firm’s corporate finance and restructuring segment.
“Our core mission is to serve our clients in the most important matters they face, wherever they are,” Steven H. Gundy, president and CEO of FTI Consulting, said. “We have been actively pursuing the opportunity to attract a high-quality restructuring team in Germany, which is one of the largest markets for consulting services in the world. Moreover, the addition of our new colleagues in Germany will further enhance our leading restructuring positions globally, supporting our commitment to investing behind our core positions of strength.”
Tammo Andersch, who with Mirko Liebthal founded Andersch in 2012, will serve as a senior managing director, as well as a member of the firm’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa leadership team. Liebthal will also work as a senior managing director.
“As a preeminent restructuring firm globally, FTI Consulting is the premier platform for our team to expand our service offerings internationally,” Andersch said. “This combination supports our ability to holistically serve our clients’ increasingly global and complex needs with the highest quality delivery. We are incredibly proud of the business we’ve built over the past seven years and see FTI Consulting as the ideal global partner to continue our impressive path.”
“As perennial leaders in their respective markets, FTI Consulting and Andersch are a natural fit. Together, we are uniquely positioned to maximize the combination of our leading professionals and positions to deliver high-quality and sustainable value for our multinational clients,” Liebthal added.
News of the acquisition comes in the wake of several hires that added new managing directors and senior managing directors to the FTI Consulting team, including Emre Carr, Rena Verma and Colleen Hsia, and Seth Arnold and Peter McKenzie. Additionally, the firm in March announced the expansion of its operations in South Africa through the absorption of economics consultancy Econex.
FTI Consulting offers services that help businesses manage change, mitigate risk, and resolve financial, legal, operational, political and regulatory, reputational, and transactional disputes. It employs more than 4,700 employees in 28 countries. The firm generated more than $2 billion in revenue in 2018. Andersch has offices in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Dusseldorf.
