Tidal Basin, a Utica, NY-headquartered consulting firm specializing in disaster preparedness and recovery, has opened a new office in Orlando, Florida.

The new office will enhance the firm's capabilities in Florida, where it has supported clients for more than two decades. The Orlando team will offer a full range of preparedness, resiliency, emergency management, mitigation, and disaster recovery services – including grant management support for federal funding programs related to Covid-19. Tidal Basin intends to eventually grow the office to add 15-20 new employees.

“As a leading emergency preparedness firm, we focus on staying ahead of the curve, making the critical investments necessary to have the right level of staff and the experienced talent in the right location to serve our customers most effectively,” said Mark Misczak, COO of Tidal Basin. “Opening a new office in Orlando reflects our deep roots in the state as well as our strong commitment to the entire region as we continue to grow our team there.”

Founded in 1985, Tidal Basin helps organizations, businesses, and governments prepare for, manage, and recover from natural and man-made disasters. Its services include planning, training, and exercises; grants management; portfolio management for funding sources; and software integration support.

Much of the firm’s work has been related to hurricane planning and response, with the company having worked extensively in the Gulf Coast states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Tidal Basin has offices in Utica, New Orleans, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico.

The Covid-19 crisis is obviously boosting demand for its pandemic event-related services. Tidal Basin's experts are currently supporting federal grants management for states, healthcare systems, hospitals, education, and local governments – maintaining compliance across overlapping federal funding programs including under the CARES Act.

Tidal Basin is also helping clients update pandemic plans for business continuity and emergency operations.

In related news, environmental consultancy Montrose Environmental Group earlier this month acquired CTEH, an Arkansas-based scientific consultancy specializing in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
