New Jersey selects consultancy for Covid-19 contact tracing

Public Consulting Group, a Boston-based public sector management consultancy, has been tapped to support New Jersey’s contact tracing programs.

As part of the contract, PCG will build and deploy a workforce of contact tracers to support local health departments, helping them quickly identify and alert people who may have come in contact with Covid-19. The state’s purchase order includes $20.7 million to pay 1,200 full-time contract tracers for three months, $1.5 million to pay 60 supervisors, and $540,000 for project management.

PCG will work with a team of three subcontractors to complete the project: staffing firms The Computer Merchant and Staffing Etc., as well as public affairs and communications firm Kivvit.

PCG will also work with New Jersey’s Community Contact Tracing Corps, which is currently being developed by Rutgers University. The university is hiring, training, and deploying up to 1,000 graduate students as contact tracers.

Though Rutgers will manage its contact tracers for now, it’s currently unclear how the PCG and Rutgers groups will work together.

The New Jersey deal is the latest contact tracing project for PCG, which is also supporting programs in Wisconsin, Arkansas, and New York. PCG’s contact tracing services combine its expertise in public health, project management, and human capital management.
