Altman Solon, a Boston-headquartered telecom, media, and technology (TMT) sector consulting firm, has entered Australia through the acquisition of Sydney-based TMT specialist Venture Consulting. The global consultancy also last week announced the launch of a Singapore office.

Altman Solon was created last year by the merger of US consultancy Altman Vilandrie & Company with Europe-based Solon Management Consulting. The union created a 300-person firm specializing in strategy, operations, go-to-market, and capital services for TMT clients.

The firm, which bills itself as the largest pure-play TMT consulting firm in the world, has now expanded into Asia-Pacific.

Altman Solon last week announced the opening of an office in Singapore which will serve as the company’s Southeast Asia hub. The new office is headed by Ben Happel, a director who has worked at Altman Solon since 2003. He has a decade of experience advising clients in Southeast Asia.

It is the firm’s 10th global office, and follows the launch of a Mexico City location in fall 2020.

“Singapore is a regional hub for the financial community and the gateway to strategic clients in Southeast Asia. With the Singapore office, we establish a permanent footprint in APAC, bundle local and regional market expertise, and attract local talent to serve our clients in this part of the world more effectively,” said managing partner Patrick Bellenbaum.

Altman Solon expects to grow the Singapore office in the coming months with transfers and local hires.

The firm this week announced the acquisition of Venture Consulting, which bills itself as the largest TMT specialist consultancy in Australia and New Zealand. Founded in 2009 and based in Sydney, Venture has 10 team members, according to LinkedIn.

Altman Solon previously had a client services partnership with Venture. The acquired company will now form Altman’s 11th global office, and further expand its Asia-Pacific presence hot on the heels of the Singapore launch.

Venture’s Justin Jameson and David Bornstein will join Altman Solon as partners, alongside the rest of their team.

“Justin and I share Altman Solon’s commitment to building the leading TMT-specialized consulting firm in our region,” Bornstein said. “Coming together was an easy decision. From today, we are already the largest TMT specialist consultancy in the region and scaling rapidly. As Altman Solon, we now bring deep global expertise and capabilities of the world’s leading TMT strategy specialist to our clients, while continuing with the same local insights, experience, and connections.”
