Health Management Associates (HMA), a national healthcare research and consulting firm, has acquired Edrington Health Consulting (EHC), a Scottsdale, AZ-based healthcare actuarial and analysis firm.

Founded in 2014, EHC provides a range of data and analytics support services in Medicaid and Medicare, working with health plans, state agencies, providers, and other stakeholders. The firm’s services include actuarial and financial analysis and strategy, provider reimbursement and incentives, risk and efficiency analysis, and data warehousing and analytics.

The Arizona-based consulting firm has approximately nine employees.

“Edrington Health Consulting has helped clients across the country navigate the complexities of reimbursement mechanisms, tailoring strategies and solutions that help fuel future success," said Jay Rosen, founder and president of HMA. "The actuarial expertise of our new colleagues is impressive and further expands the ways in which we can help our clients now and into the future."

EHC will operate as Edrington Health Consulting, An HMA Company. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We have worked alongside HMA for years and are proud to join our new colleagues who we know share a similar passion for publicly funded healthcare," said Kyle Edrington, founder and managing partner of EHC. "The combination of HMA's unmatched expertise and breadth of knowledge with our foundation in client-focused, outcomes-driven actuarial consulting services will deliver exciting opportunities to our existing clients and team members."

HMA was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Lansing, MI. The firm specializes in advising on publicly funded healthcare and human services policy, programs, financing, and evaluation. The firm’s clients include government agencies, public and private providers, health systems, health plans, institutional investors, and foundations.

HMA's consulting services span analytics, behavioral health, clinical services, Covid-19 support, public health, delivery system redesign, government programs, healthcare IT, investment services, opioid crisis response, and long-term services and support.

The consultancy has more than 300 professionals across 22 offices in the United States.

HMA in September 2020 bought Burns & Associates, an Arizona-based health policy consulting firm.
