ZS acquires digital health firm Medullan
Management consulting firm ZS has acquired Medullan, a Boston-headquartered digital health consulting firm.
Founded in 2004, Medullan helps healthcare industry clients build web and mobile applications that drive adoption and patient engagement. The firm partners with clients across the development cycle, from problem definition to user research, UX design, and agile software development. The firm also provides solutions for virtual care and decentralized & hybrid trials through its proprietary VARA platform.
Medullan has worked with more than 100 payer, provider, life sciences, and pharmaceutical clients, including Anthem, Mass Brigham General, Boston Scientific, and Roche.
The consultancy has more than 80 employees across offices in Boston; Berlin, Germany; Kingston, Jamaica; and D’Abadie, Trinidad.
Medullan will strengthen ZS’ digital and connected health practice, which provides consulting, technology, and analytical services to help life sciences clients drive successful digital health solutions. The practice has supported many of the world’s top life sciences firms.

The deal is the largest acquisition ever for ZS, which was founded in 1983 and is based in Evanston, IL. The consulting firm has grown primarily by organic means to achieve a global workforce of more than 9,000 people. ZS has 28 offices across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
The firm focuses on serving clients in healthcare, technology, and private equity. ZS’s consulting offerings include strategy & operations, AI & analytics, technology & operations, marketing, and sales. The firm also has industry-specific offerings in R&D/medical and value & access for life sciences and healthcare clients.
