RSM US has promoted John Behringer to the role of national financial institutions sector leader. He is based in the firm’s Chicago headquarters.

Behringer has been at RSM since 2007, serving as a risk consulting partner focusing on financial services clients. In his new role, Behringer will lead over 500 dedicated professionals who advise banks and credit unions on strategy, M&A, risk, compliance, internal audit, fraud and investigations, and technology.

RSM’s wider financial services sector practice works with mid-market clients across asset management, insurance, specialty finance, fintech, and brokerage and trading.

“Banks and credit unions are facing a challenging climate due to the pandemic, but there are many opportunities for institutions to continue to gain strength in areas such as digital transformation, technology, customer experience, environmental, social and governance (ESG) integration, regulation and policy, and branch strategies. I look forward to helping our clients continue to innovate and succeed,” Behringer said.RSM promotes John Behringer to national financial institutions sector leaderBehringer has more than 20 years of public accounting experience specializing in financial institutions. He has supported numerous clients on engagements in strategic advisory – including M&A and digital transformation – as well as in credit risk management and internal audit services spanning credit review, SEC and Sarbanes-Oxley reporting, internal controls, and ongoing compliance.

At RSM, Behringer also serves as facilitator for the firm’s national accounting and advisory services continuing education programs.

Prior to joining the firm, he spent four-and-a-half years at accountancy Plante & Moran, where he was a senior manager delivering assurance and risk advisory to financial services clients. Behringer began his career at Deloitte, where he worked in the areas of audit and corporate tax technology.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University as well as a CPA designation.

“John’s extensive background combined with a demonstrated record of delivering innovative solutions will help our clients keep up with the ever-evolving nature of the financial institutions sector,” said Peter Brady, national financial services leader with RSM US. “I am very pleased to have John serve as our financial institutions sector leader, further enhancing our ability to positively impact our professionals, our clients and the marketplace.”

RSM US’ approximately 12,500 people deliver audit, tax, and consulting services to clients in a wide variety of industries nationwide.
