Morf3D partners with Siemens Advanta on new manufacturing facility
Morf3D, an El Segundo, CA-based metal additive manufacturing specialist, has partnered with Siemens Advanta Consulting on a new applied digital manufacturing center (AMDC) in Long Beach, CA.
Morf3D, a subsidiary of Nikon, said the partnership will support development at the 90,000-square-foot facility – which will harness applied research, advanced engineering and application development, serial production, and industry partnerships. First announced in April 2021, the facility has ambitions to be one of the largest aerospace additive manufacturing solution integrators in the US.
Siemens Advanta Consulting, the industrial heavyweight’s management consulting arm, will use its proprietary design and simulation software to create scale-up plans and bottleneck analysis, as well as examine innovative manufacturing and logistics concepts. Advanta will also use a digital twin of production to validate material flow and space demand.
"Siemens Advanta is proud to contribute to the forward-thinking innovation that is transforming the additive manufacturing industry," said Rani Shea, CEO of Siemens Advanta, North America. "In working with Morf3D and its new ADMC, we look forward to helping optimize additive manufacturing capabilities for the aerospace industry."
Advanta’s work at the AMDC is expected to transition to ongoing software and on-site personnel support.
Founded in 1996 as Siemens’ internal consulting unit, Advanta specializes in digital manufacturing consulting – providing services from strategy definition to implementation and ongoing support. The consulting unit is headquartered in Munich and has more than 500 professionals globally.
Siemens is the largest industrial manufacturing firm in Europe, with more than 303,000 global employees across divisions in industry, energy, healthcare, and infrastructure & cities.
"We are constantly thinking about how to further our industry and this partnership with Siemens Advanta gives us a great sense of optimism for the future," said Ivan Madera, CEO of Morf3D. "Morf3D is experiencing growth at a rapid rate. We wanted to make sure that our factory was flexible and that we had a team able to understand the challenges that we might face, not just today, but in the future too."
