Deloitte US has appointed veteran IT consulting professional Kavitha Prabhakar as the head of its Civil Government practice. Prabhakar, who replaces incumbent Diane Murray, will be based out of the firm’s Chicago office.

Deloitte’s Civil Government practice provides advisory services to 22 citizen-facing agencies, including the Departments of Transportation, Education, and Social Security. The public services-focused practice numbers over 3,000 professionals in the US.

The Civil Government practice at the Big Four firm now has a new leader – Kavitha Prabhakar, a principal with Deloitte Consulting since 2012. Prabhakar has over 20 years of consulting experience, helping deliver large tech-enabled business transformations to public and private sector clients. The IT-savvy consulting professional has served high-profile clients that include the likes of Capital One, Freddie Mac, Wells Fargo, and the IRS.

"Throughout her career, Kavitha has consistently demonstrated a passion for our clients and our people," said Dan Helfrich, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP and Government and Public Services practice leader. "She brings not only an incredible understanding of the market and what our clients' challenges are, but also a keen business acumen and leadership skills that inspire her teams and colleagues."

With clients in both the private and public sectors looking to digitally transform their operations and processes to realize efficiency gains and competitive boosts, consultancies are always looking to enhance their digital competencies and capabilities. Meanwhile, with a greater focus on digital services, it seems that digital transformation experts like Kavitha Prabhakar are an increasingly attractive choice to fill top strategic positions at high-flying consulting firms. If your strategy is digital-focused, shouldn’t your leaders be so as well?

"Throughout the federal government, there are inspiring examples of transformative ways agencies are improving or rethinking how they deliver services to citizens," said Prabhakar. "Whether it is design thinking, automation, or cyber risk, federal departments and agencies are open to new ideas and solutions with citizens in mind.”

“The work of our civil government practice is fully engaged with many of these agencies on their transformative journeys, and I am proud to be leading a team doing such critical and innovative work."

Prabhakar holds an MS in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as a BS in computer science from SUNY Buffalo. In addition to her consulting work, she is involved with Deloitte’s Executive Women in Technology initiative, as well as with the Women’s Initiative (WIN) programs 100 Wise Women and Women on Wall Street.

Prabhakar replaces Diane Murray, who moves on to serve as Deloitte’s Delivery Excellence leader.
