Alvarez & Marsal adds two managing directors to Disputes & Investigations practice

Turnaround and management consultancy Alvarez & Marsal has bolstered the strength of its Disputes & Investigations practice by appointing two new managing directors to the division in LA and San Francisco. Deepak Jain and Geoff Winkler both boast over 20 years’ experience consulting in the area of disputes and investigations.

The consulting firm has reinforced its Disputes & Investigations practice on the West Coast, with the hiring of Deepak Jain and Geoff Winkler as managing directors. Jain will be based out of A&M’s LA office, while Winkler will be based in San Francisco.

Jain has more than 20 years’ consulting and expert testimony experience. He has performed risk, loss, and damage analyses, security analyses, and post-merger analyses, among a host of other dispute and litigation-related work. Jain has consulted on malpractice disputes for Big Four firms, analyzed damages related to copyright infringement for a leading toy manufacturer, and led a costs assessment for an oil spill on behalf of an oil firm.Alvarez & Marsal adds two managing directors to Disputes & Investigations practiceJain has served clients in a diverse range of industries, including aerospace, software, real estate, healthcare, and entertainment. Before joining A&M, Jain was vice president at TM Financial Forensics. Before that, Jain worked at Navigant Consulting, and at litigation and business consultancy Tucker Alan before it was acquired by Navigant.

He holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s in business administration from Boston University.

Geoff Winkler has over 20 years’ experience in fraud, forensic, and regulatory investigations. He has experience conducting anti-money laundering and white collar crime investigations, and has served as an expert witness in numerous fraud and forensics cases.

Winkler has conducted investigations for the SEC and FTC, and has worked with clients across industries ranging from agriculture to telecommunications. Before joining A&M, he was Director of Fraud and Forensics Investigations Bates Group LLC, leading large teams of investigators, accountants, and data scientists on complex regulatory and criminal investigations. Prior to that, Winkler was Director of Case Management at the Grassmueck Group.

He holds BA, MBA, and JD degrees from Willamette University, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor. In addition to his consulting work, Winkler also teaches courses on fraud and forensic accounting, business law and ethics, and American government. He is a frequent speaker at conferences related to fraud and investigations.

Back on the East Coast, the expanding business consulting firm recently expanded its office space at its Manhattan headquarters. The deal will add an additional 22,000 sq ft to its office footprint at 600 Madison Ave.

Leadership advisor YSC Consulting appoints Eric Pliner as CEO

London-based global leadership consultancy YSC has appointed Eric Pliner as its new CEO, replacing Robert Sharrock, who held the role for five years. Pliner, previously the firm’s Americas leader, will remain based in New York City.

For 30 years, YSC Consulting has been providing leadership advisory services to clients across a wide range of industries. The firm provides services in the areas of leadership strategy, performance, research, and analytics. YSC also has offerings in organizational leadership and CEO & board advisory. The firm’s approach is grounded in the behavioral sciences, allowing clients to better align business strategy and leadership.

In 2017, Graphite Capital complete a private equity investment in the firm, which has allowed YSC to continue its rapid expansion across the globe. Today, the firm has 19 offices across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions, staffed by 225 professionals with backgrounds in clinical psychology and organizational behavior, among other areas.

YSC’s incumbent CEO, Robert Sharrock, will now move into the roles of managing director of YSC’s board and CEO of the advisory practice. Eric Pliner, who has been with the firm since 2010, will step into the role of CEO. An expert in organizational behavior, talent management, and development, Pliner joined the firm as a senior consultant, working his way up to managing director and head of YSC Americas in 2014.

Prior to joining YSC, Pliner was director of organizational talent management & development at the NYC Department of Education, and was an adjunct instructor in the curriculum & teaching department at Hunter College in New York. He holds an MBA in management, organizational behavior, and human resources from the City University of New York – Baruch College.
