Joe Adams, former CEO of RSM US, has been appointed chairperson of the RSM International board. He is based in Chicago.

Adams succeeds Brian Eaton, who will remain a board director. Eaton served the maximum of three, three-year terms as chairperson.

RSM extends heartfelt thanks to Brian Eaton for his service and leadership over three separate terms as Chairperson – he has made an invaluable contribution and overseen impressive growth in RSM during that time,” said Jean Stephens, CEO of RSM International.

Adams – who has been on the RSM International board since 2016 – worked closely with Eaton on RSM International’s 2030 Global Strategy, which outlines ambitious targets for multi-year growth and transformation. RSM International’s global network of independent mid-market accounting and consulting firms saw fee income increase by 41.7% in the last three years.

“RSM is entering the next phase of our evolution having finalized our 2030 global strategy in 2022,” Stephens added. “It is an extremely exciting time in RSM’s growth story as we continue our developmental journey. Joe’s experience in growing RSM US over a sustained period of time will be valuable as we continue to serve our clients, transform our business and create a positive culture for our teams.”

Adams has been at RSM since 1979, serving as managing partner and CEO of the US member firm between 2011 and 2022 and leading it to record growth. He started at RSM US as an auditor, working on engagements in audit, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, operations, and organizational and strategic matters.

Adams has an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from DePaul University, and is a certified public accountant.

“Middle market businesses have proven their resilience and adaptability in the face of incredible change and disruption, and I am convinced we are extremely well positioned to continue to help them succeed,” Adams said. “I am committed to developing and accelerating our growth plans through our 2030 Global Strategy together with the Global Executive Office team and the entire International Board.”

RSM International has a global team of 57,000 people and member firms in 120 countries. The network had revenue of over $8 billion in 2022.
