Myrtle Consulting welcomes Lance Hartley as a Principal
After acquiring mining and metals-focused operational consultancy Kalium earlier this summer, operations consulting firm Myrtle has appointed the acquired company’s co-founder Lance Hartley as a Principal and leader of the mining and metals sector.
Founded in 2012, Myrtle Consulting is an operations consultancy with offices throughout North America. With particular expertise in in manufacturing and distribution, the firm’s advisory support addresses the areas of production, maintenance, sanitation, planning management systems, and material movement. Based out of Houston, the company also has offices in Toronto and Mexico City.
Earlier this year, the firm acquired Kalium Consulting, a recently launched operational consultancy with expertise in the mining and oil and gas industries. The deal has expanded and strengthened Myrtle’s capabilities in providing operations advisory support to those industries.
The firm has been integrating the Kalium team into its business since the transaction earlier this summer. Myrtle announced that former Kalium co-founder Lance Hartley is now a Principal and leader of the firm’s mining and metals sector. He brings over 20 years of experience in driving transformations for mining and metals clients to the new role.Hartley will help clients leverage emerging technologies like data mining analytics to enable real-time data access and automated business processes that drive sustainable growth. He will also help mining firms navigate the challenges of increasing production while managing changing environmental regulations and other pressures.

Hartley was a founder member of Peter Chadwick, which then became Cambridge Management Consulting, then Celerant Consulting, and then Hitachi Consulting. Prior to founding Kalium Consulting, Hartley was Senior Vice President, Operations, at Hitachi Consulting from 2013 to 2016. Before that, he was Vice President, Operations, and Canada Sector Lead at Celerant for four years. Prior to that, Hartley was an Operations Manager at the firm for almost nine years.
Before that, he was a Senior Project Manager at Cambridge Management Consulting, and a Project Manager at Peter Chadwick, where he started his career in consulting. Hartley had previously worked as an engineer at organizations which included British Nuclear Fuels and HJ Heinz.
Hartley has a BS in Engineering from the Imperial College in London, as well as executive education from INSEAD and Cranfield Business School.
Meanwhile, Kalium co-founder and seasoned operational consultant Mark Hampel has been appointed a Director at Myrtle. Former Kalium managing partner Jason Erny was named Myrtle’s Chief Financial Officer.
