Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), a global management consultancy, has hired Lawrence Ferrara as senior director and chief learning officer of its global transaction advisory group (TAG).

Based in A&M’s New York headquarters, Ferrara brings 17 years of learning and development experience in professional services to the newly created role.

A&M in a press release said the appointment “demonstrates Global TAG’s commitment to investing in its people, regardless of market conditions.”

Transaction advisory practices have been experiencing a downturn in demand amid higher cost of capital and an uncertain economic environment, according to a Source Global Research report from earlier this year. This has led to layoffs in the M&A practices of several large consultancies this year, including Deloitte, KPMG, and EY.

Ferrara has extensive experience guiding organizations through talent development strategy and operations lifecycle. He has expertise in instructional systems design, educational technologies, and cognitive and educational psychology.Alvarez & Marsal hires Lawrence Ferrara as chief learning officer for M&A groupFerrara spent the last 17 years in the learning and development practice of PwC US, most recently serving as learning strategy leader for deals and cybersecurity, risk, and regulatory. He joined in the Big Four firm in 2006 as a learning and development specialist.

Ferrara has an executive MBA from New York University, a master’s degree in education from Penn State University, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Kean University.

“Market conditions don’t dictate the pace of our hiring or the investments in our people,” said Paul Aversano, managing director and leader of global TAG. “Lawrence’s joining further supports our commitment to successfully onboard and integrate all Global TAG new hires, as we continually improve our market leading retention and recruitment efforts. His appointment ensures our existing and future L&D programs reflect our global approach and enhance our ability to maximize value for clients.”

A&M has the largest transaction advisory practice outside of the Big Four accountancies, with 900+ professionals in 36 offices throughout the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. The wider firm has 8,000 people.
