RMA Companies expands into Texas and Kansas with acquisition of Rone Engineering
RMA Companies, an LA-based geotechnical engineering and environmental consulting firm, has expanded its physical presence into Texas and Kansas with the acquisition of Rone Engineering, a Dallas-based geotechnical engineering firm.
Founded in 1972, Rone provides geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and environmental services to public and private sector clients in the US South-Central region. The firm works on projects in transportation, public buildings, industrial, commercial, and residential.
Rone has over 130 employees, according to LinkedIn, and offices in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, and Kansas City, KS.
The December acquisition of Rone will continue RMA’s national growth. The deal marks the firm’s seventh acquisition in 2023 and its 11th since being acquired by Ocean Sound Partners in 2021.
Ocean Sound is a New York-based private equity firm that focuses on control investments in technology and technology-enabled services companies for government and enterprise end-markets.
“Rone operates offices in the critical Texas Triangle that is poised to receive over $17 billion in IIJA funding over the next five years,” said Ed Lyon, CEO of RMA. “We are excited to partner with Richard and his team to expand the services that Rone can offer their clients and to be able to serve our existing RMA clients in the Texas market.”
Richard Leigh, president of Rone, will join RMA as Texas divisional president.

Founded in 1962, RMA delivers services in environmental consulting, geosciences, and materials testing and inspection for infrastructure assets. The company works with public and private sector clients in transportation, healthcare, education, renewable energy, and water resources.
RMA has approximately 950 employees across offices in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Indiana, Florida, New Jersey, and New York.
