Alvarez & Marsal hires Jose Manuel Ramirez and Harry Kim as managing directors

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), a New York-headquartered management consultancy, has hired Jose Manuel Ramirez as a managing director in its Latin America complex transaction tax team and Harry Kim as a managing director in its life sciences group.

Ramirez joins the New York office of A&M’s tax services affiliate, Alvarez & Marsal Tax. He brings over 30 years of experience advising multinationals on corporate and personal tax planning in relation to local, regional, and global transactions.

Ramirez has expertise in centralized offshore treasury, cross-border transactions, M&A, excise duties, value chain optimization, site location, captive reinsurances, shared services centers, dispute and tax controversy resolution, and tax incentives projects.

He has worked on strategic tax assignments with large firms and LATAM family-owned businesses in a wide range of industries, including retail, tourism, real estate, transportation, manufacturing, mining, and energy.

Ramirez joins A&M from EY, where he spent the last six years as partner in the international and transaction tax practice. Before that, he spent 23 years in KPMG’s tax business, initially in the Mexico City office before transferring to the international tax practice in New York in 2006.

Ramirez is a Mexican CPA and holds a professional tax certificate issued by the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants.

Based in Sacramento, Kim brings more than 25 years of experience in life sciences and healthcare. He specializes in helping healthcare and life sciences organizations leverage technology to enable new services, improve the cost curve of care delivery, and transform patient experiences. Kim has worked with governments and businesses on digital health implementation and delivery engagements in over 40 countries.

He was previously SVP and GM at Amwell, a global telehealth provider, and global business leader at Samsung Health. Kim also previously spent 11 years with Hewlett Packard, where he was global leader of the health and life sciences industry and grew the business from $3 billion to $11 billion in revenue.

He began his career as a management consultant at EY and Deloitte.

Kim has a bachelor’s degree in financial management from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
