A&M Tax hires former EY exec Michael Bertolino as global markets leader

Alvarez & Marsal Tax (A&M Tax), the tax consulting affiliate of advisory firm Alvarez & Marsal, has hired Michael Bertolino as its first global markets leader. The firm also announced a raft of internal appointments to support multi-jurisdictional needs.

Based in Los Angeles, Bertolino previously spent 36 years with EY, where he served as global leader of people advisory services and deputy global vice chair of tax. Bertolino oversaw 15,000 and 40,000 global professionals, respectively.

In the newly created role at A&M Tax, Bertolino will focus on strengthening client engagement across global markets and aligning strategy, talent acquisition, and services to support growth.

“Clients are focused on value, agility and an advisor’s ability to collaborate as a strategic partner,” said Ernesto “Ernie” Perez, global head of A&M Tax. “The timing of Michael joining aligns with our ongoing ambitious growth plans and his experience as a leader and advisor will strengthen our focus on outcomes and high-touch execution for our clients around the world.”

The tax consultancy also announced several internal leadership appointments to help drive integration.

• Adam Benson was appointed head of A&M Tax US and will retain his position as head of the US global transaction tax (GTT) practice.
• Jeffrey Schwarcz was named leader of the GTT private equity practice.
• Dan Peters will serve as global head of transfer pricing.
• Justin Whitehouse will serve as global head of indirect tax.
