Freed Maxick joins Withum
Freed Maxick PC, a Buffalo-based accounting and consulting firm, has joined its practice with WithumSmith+Brown PC, a Princeton, NJ-based national accounting and consulting firm.
Effective August 1, Freed Maxick will operate as Withum. The Buffalo accountancy said the combination was not structured as an acquisition by Withum.
Freed Maxick was founded in 1958 and has approximately 350 people across locations in Buffalo, Rochester, and Batavia, NY. The firm is the 93rd-largest CPA firm in the US, according to Accounting Today, with annual revenue of $72 million.
The combination will expand Withum’s physical presence into Upstate and Western New York, as well as bolster its healthcare audit and consulting practice. Freed Maxick will gain the expanded resources of a 2,500-person network, including greater capabilities in emerging technologies and outsourcing.
The deal is unique in the current accounting industry landscape for eschewing private equity involvement.
"Our clients now have access to the resources of a nationally recognized team of business advisors and accountants—a luxury we’re excited to expand upon,” said Richard Wright Jr., managing director at Freed Maxick. “Withum’s perspective complements our existing expertise, offering more expansive solutions in technology, automation, cyber and information security services, as well as enhanced tax and international service capabilities."
Withum was founded in 1974 and has 2,500 people across 27 offices. It is the 22nd-largest CPA firm, according to Accounting Today, and has annual revenues of $606 million.
“Freed Maxick elevates Withum’s presence as a national player in the healthcare space and is the bookend to our international practice with offices now along the Canadian border," said Pat Walsh, managing partner and CEO.
