Deloitte adds Mark Roman to Washington national tax practice
Deloitte has hired Mark Roman, a longtime senior Congressional advisor, as deputy managing principal of the tax policy group within its Washington national tax practice.
Roman joins the Big Four accountancy after 20 years at the US House of Representatives, where he most recently served as staff director of the Committee on Ways and Means during the 118th and 119th Congresses. In the role, Roman directed development and negotiation of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
During his tenure on Capitol Hill, Roman also held the top position on two different congressional committees and on the staff on four different members of Congress. In those roles, he advised lawmakers on key tax policy debates of the last decade, including the Inflation Reduction Act and CARES Act.
“Mark’s record of leadership on the Hill combined with his central role shaping recent major tax legislation provide valuable insights into how policy is implemented today. His experience navigating complex political dynamics will offer our clients forward‑looking perspective at a pivotal time,” said Adam Moehring, Washington national tax leader, Deloitte.
Deloitte’s Washington national tax practice offers support in areas including income tax accounting, corporate tax, international tax, multistate tax, tax policy, transfer pricing, and credits and incentives.
“I’m excited to be joining Deloitte’s Tax Policy Group at a time when organizations are looking for more visibility into how policy decisions are made and how they ultimately affect tax planning, compliance and business strategy,” said Roman. “Having spent many years immersed in the legislative process, I’m eager to share practical insights into how policy is shaped, debated and enacted.”
Deloitte is the largest accounting and consulting firm in the United States, according to Inside Public Accounting, with annual revenue of $33.05 billion.
