Portage Point appoints Steven Shenker as co-head of turnaround
Portage Point Partners, a Chicago-headquartered investment banking and advisory firm, has promoted Steven Shenker to co-head of the turnaround and restructuring services (TRS) practice.
Alongside co-head Tom Studebaker, Shenker will work to extend the practice’s market reach, deepen relationships with stakeholders, broaden capabilities, and attract and develop talent.
“Our TRS practice has become a market-leading platform by combining premier talent, differentiated capabilities and an uncompromising execution culture,” said Matthew Ray, founder and CEO of Portage Point. “Steven has been instrumental in that growth, and this leadership expansion reflects both the scale TRS has achieved and our continued investment to meet increasing demand across complex operational and financial situations.”
Shenker has more than decade of experience in investment banking, private equity, and management consulting. He joined Portage Point in 2020 as a senior vice president and was named a managing director in 2024. Shenker has completed more than 50 turnaround and restructuring engagements with the firm, serving as chief restructuring officer at TPx and Blink Fitness and chief transformation officer at QC Supply.
Before his tenure at Portage Point, Shenker was a vice president at Periphas Capital, an associate at The Carlyle Group, and an investment banking analyst at Moelis & Company.
He has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Yeshiva University.
“Tom and I share an ambitious vision to build on the platform’s momentum, continue adding elite senior talent, broaden capabilities and take on increasingly complex situations where Portage Point can deliver differentiated impact,” Shenker said.
Portage Point was founded in 2016 and has more than 200 employees listed on LinkedIn. The firm provides mid-market clients with services in transaction advisory and execution, valuations, office of the CFO, performance improvement, interim management, investment banking, operational turnaround, and financial restructuring.
Portage Point has 11 US offices as well as international locations in India and Israel.
New Mountain Capital made minority investments in the firm in 2024 and 2026.
Portage Point earlier this year welcomed Art Djavairian as head of performance improvement.
