Global IT services, consulting, and business solutions firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced the launch of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions that will increase accuracy and quality in chip fabrication, and help semiconductor companies successfully digitize.

The move comes at an opportune time for the semiconductor market, which, thanks to big data, the Internet of Things, and increased connectivity, is enjoying rapid growth and change. Companies are racing to innovate, expand product lines, and becoming increasingly fast and agile in production processes. To help these organizations, TCS has set up a “Semiconductor Center of Excellence” that will use analytics and automation to streamline the semiconductor value chain. There, robotics will be a focus – specifically those built to respond to unique manufacturing scenarios.

"We are leveraging our deep contextual knowledge gained from engagements in the semiconductor industry and harnessing the power of robotic automation to intelligently streamline core business processes using fab data. This will significantly jumpstart our customers' Business 4.0 transformation journeys, with faster product introduction and improved quality," V Rajanna, the global head of TCS’ business unit, said. "Our new CoE reiterates our commitment to invest in defining new digital paradigms for the semiconductor industry."

The firm’s RPA solution is built on UK multinational software company Blue Prism’s Connected-RPA platform. The platform aims to increase response time to issues that may arise in the production of semiconductors through the use of insights collection from production data.

"By combining TCS' semiconductor industry expertise and our Connected-RPA platform, we're able to transform operations and speed up product delivery in one of the most competitive and vital industries in the world," Chad Gailey, vice president of Blue Prism Americas’ channel sales and global service providers, said. "We are driving disruption and innovation by offering an unbeatable value proposition for deploying intelligent automation solutions."

TCS is part of the Tata group, India’s largest multinational business group. Headquartered in India, it employs more than 436,000 consultants in offices in 46 countries, including the United States. In the fiscal year ending in March 2019, the firm generated $20.9 billion in revenue.
