FTI Consulting appoints Matt Garfield as managing director
Global consulting firm FTI Consulting has announced the appointment of Matt Garfield as managing director of the firm’s retail and consumer product practice. Garfield will be based out of Chicago.
“As retailers continue to face pressure from multiple angles, whether it is e-commerce or changing consumer tastes and habits, companies will need to be creative to maximize value and drive growth,” J.D. Wichser, FTI Consulting’s retail and consumer products practice leader, said. “Matt brings a mix of experience from industry and consulting that will benefit our clients as they seek to maximize opportunities, address the challenges they face, and facilitate faster and lasting change.”
Garfield has more than a decade of experience in the retail and consumer products industry. He has worked with a broad variety of companies, including those in the consumer packaged goods, specialty, retail, big box, food and beverage, and home and personal care sectors. His specific expertise lies in supply chain, mergers and acquisitions, cost optimization, growth and brand strategy, and several other areas.
Before joining FTI, Garfield served as the supply chain strategy practice leader for Ultra Beauty. He also worked in PwC’s retail and consumer strategy and operations practice for more than eight years. He holds a bachelor of science in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
“I am excited for the opportunity to utilize my experience and insights gained from working within the retail industry to help others transform their business and stay ahead of change in disruptive times,” Garfield said. “With its diverse platform of business transformation, transactions and restructuring expertise, FTI Consulting was the right fit for me to leverage that experience.”
Garfield’s role is one of several high-profile job announcements at FTI Consulting in the past weeks. Last week, Brian Stites was named managing director of the firm’s cybersecurity practice. In early August, Nancy Tseng and Gary Jacobs were respectively named senior managing director and managing director in FTI’s telecom, media, and technology industry practice.
FTI Consulting employs more than 4,700 people in 28 countries. It offers services that allow companies to more efficiently mitigate risk, manage change, and resolve legal, financial, operational, and political disputes. The firm reported revenue of more than $2 billion in 2018.
