RSM US acquires nonprofit sector consultancy Tate & Tryon
RSM US, a mid-market accounting and consulting firm, has acquired Tate & Tryon, an accounting and consulting firm focused on nonprofit sector clients.
Founded in 1993, Washington, DC–based Tate & Tryon provides audit, tax, accounting outsourcing, and advisory services to nonprofit organizations. The firm’s subsidiary, T3 Information Systems, delivers consulting services for Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, corporate performance management solutions, and custom application development.
Tate & Tryon has 11 partners, two principals, and nearly 140 professionals. The company has an additional office location in New York.
RSM’s acquisition of the firm expands its capabilities in serving nonprofit clients, including professional, trade, and membership associations and charities. The move also significantly boosts RSM’s DC-area presence, where it has three offices and 586 employees.
The addition of T3 enhances the firm’s technology practice, which is the largest Microsoft Dynamics reseller in the US. The move also adds an established outsourced accounting services team in the DC-area for RSM.
“This is an exciting opportunity for RSM as we significantly grow our nonprofit industry practice nationally, and our technology consulting and outsourced accounting services practices in the Washington, DC metro area,” said Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO of RSM US.
Tate & Tryon cofounders Charlie Tate and Mike Tryon, as well as the firm’s other partners, will transition to RSM upon deal closing, which is expected to finalize on January 1, 2020. The Tate & Tryon team will continue to be located at their existing office in Washington following the completion of the deal.
“As one of the first DC-based CPA firms to focus exclusively on serving the nonprofit industry, we have always aimed to be the best at helping our clients stay a step ahead to not only survive, but thrive, with strategic insights, services and technology solutions,” said Charlie Tate. “As part of RSM, we can meet our clients’ needs even more comprehensively while providing the same exceptional service they expect and offering our people new opportunities for growth and development.”
Koltin Consulting Group advised both firms on the transaction.
Headquartered in Chicago, RSM US has nearly 11,000 employees across 87 US cities. The firm is a member of RSM International, which has 41,000-plus employees in 116 countries.
