Rimkus Consulting Group acquires Metallurgical Technologies
Forensic consultancy Rimkus Consulting Group has acquired Metallurgical Technologies (Met-Tech), a Moorseville, North Carolina-based metallurgical analysis and testing laboratory. The sale was made final February 14. Metallurgical Technologies was advised by mergers and acquisitions advisor Generational Equity throughout the process.
Met-Tech specializes in rapid response forensic materials engineering. It also provides failure analysis, corrosion and defect investigations, reverse engineering, chemical analysis, and other services to its clients. Its acquisition will allow Rimkus to enhance its offerings in the sector.
“The joining of Rimkus forensic engineers and Metallurgical Technologies forensic materials testing lab is a natural fit. The synergistic effect of our combination will result in enhanced growth opportunities for both entities as we blend together into the Rimkus team,” Sam Pendergrass, CEO of Met-Tech, said.
One of Rimkus’s recent projects involved evaluating the origin and cause of a fire at at 50,000-square-foot snack manufacturing facility. The project called for Rimkus to examine the fire scene, building systems, plant equipment, and machinery. The firm eventually ruled the fire accidental.
Another project saw Rimkus determining the extent of damage done to a 2.5-million-square-foot hotel and convention center construction project, after the failure of structural steel resulted in cost overruns and schedule delays.
“I’m incredibly proud of the Rimkus team for their hard work to propel our business forward this year, completing three acquisitions to deepen our expertise in construction consulting, mechanical, and electrical engineering consulting and now forensic materials engineering,” Curtis Brown, chairman of the board of Rimkus, said. “In our 30 years, Rimkus is uniquely positioned to serve our customers like never before.”
“Rimkus is the ideal partner for our team with a shared commitment to deploying the most advanced technologies and methods to help our clients increase productivity with less downtime,” Pendergrass added.
Rimkus operates out of more than 60 offices across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It employs more than 500 people. In addition to Met-Tech, the firm has recently acquired Amset Technical Consulting, Inc and Brashear Construction Consulting, Inc.
