Michael Tarsatana rejoins Alvarez & Marsal in New York
Michael Tarsatana has rejoined consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal as a senior director in the restructuring and turnaround division in New York.
Tarsatana has more than 20 years of advisory experience, focusing on development and execution of business plans, and operational and financial restructurings.
He previously was a co-CEO and founder at Gladii Consulting, a management consultancy focusing on companies facing financial and operational challenges.
Between 2016 and 2018, Tarsatana was the CEO and CFO of distressed firm Total Woman Gym + Spa, where he led a successful turnaround and sold the company. Before that he was CFO of Underground Elephant (now DMS Insurance), a San Diego-based digital marketing firm.
Tarsatana was a senior director at Alvarez & Marsal between 2009 and 2015. While at the firm, he worked on a number of high-profile projects in the wake of the financial crisis. He served as interim CFO of tax prep company Jackson Hewitt, managing a restructuring which included a redistribution of the workforce, new pricing strategy, and the creation of strategic partnerships. Tarsatana also was a senior advisor on the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, managing a distressed, pan-Asian portfolio valued at more than $750 million.
Before joining Alvarez & Marsal, Tarsatana worked in the restructuring group at Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC). He holds an MBA in finance from Temple University and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Rutgers University.
In an interview on the company’s website, Tarsatana spoke about returning to the firm, which is one of the world’s leading turnaround and restructuring advisors.
“The major reason I came back was after serving in a few CFO roles on my own, I missed the comradery of working with a team, as well as, being able to truly rely on my fellow A&M professionals,” Tarsatana said. “As I have heard Brian Marsal say many times, like your work and like the people you work with. That mantra has been a real way of life for me at A&M.”
The firm earlier this year added Craig Jones as a senior director in its energy practice in Houston.
