Former L.E.K. consultant Jason Popp named CEO of Moss
Moss, a Chicago-based experiential marketing solutions company, has named Jason Popp as its new president and CEO.
Moss delivers marketing solutions and products for events, exhibits, retail, and corporate environments. The company designs and manufactures graphics, banners, signage, fabric walls and dividers, outdoor tents, and lighting products, among others.
With the events and experiential retail segment taking a particularly massive body-blow due to the pandemic, the company has also started manufacturing face masks and face shields.
Moss has manufacturing facilities in the US, Germany, and China, with a workforce of more than 350 people.
Amid this most challenging of times for the events industry, Moss has brought in Jason Popp to serve as its new president and CEO. The events industry executive brings more than 20 years of global business leadership experience, with expertise across strategy, finance, operations, marketing and sales, and people development. Popp succeeds Dan Patterson, who retires after serving as CEO for eight years. During his tenure, Patterson expanded the firm into Germany and China and launched the Moss Medical manufacturing unit in response to the pandemic.
“Jason’s past success and his commitment to a strong company culture and sustainability are in solid alignment with Moss,” Patterson said. “We are thrilled and confident in Jason’s ability to lead Moss to its next level. Our customers can expect a smooth transition.”
Popp previously spent 15 years at GES, a leading global event and trade show services firm headquartered in Las Vegas. He latterly served as president of GES International, leading a staff of 1000+ in 18 offices outside of the firm's core North America business. Before that, he served as EVP of the international business, chief operating officer, and SVP of international strategy and operations.
Before GES, Popp was an engagement manager at business consulting firm L.E.K. Consulting, where he worked on strategic projects in the firm’s Los Angeles and London offices. He started his career at Shell, where he was a commercial director, and led the commercial and financial operations of Shell's entry into the liquefied petroleum gas markets in Hungary and Spain.
He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“I couldn’t be more proud to join the talented, global team at Moss. I have known Moss for years as a design-focused partner providing powerful visual communication and structural products for events, environments, retail and exhibits, and now medical supplies,” Popp said. “We are uniquely positioned with our operations in the U.S., Germany and China to support the global recovery of brand experiences and events with flexible, affordable, and sustainable solutions for brand marketers.”
