Management consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal has launched an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) services practice.

The new practice will help private equity firms and their portfolio companies, as well as corporate clients and organizations across sectors, address their ESG needs. The New York-headquartered firm will advise clients on ESG assessments, disclosures, strategies, diligence, and initiatives that enhance ESG ratings and performance.

“A&M’s ESG offering is rooted in our integrated platform and our ‘leadership, action, results’ credo,” said Tony Alvarez II, CEO and cofounder of Alvarez & Marsal. “It dovetails with the turnaround, transaction, and transformation know-how A&M is known for.”

The practice will be led by managing director Julie Hertzberg, who has served as head of case management services since 2006. A specialist in Chapter 11 bankruptcy case preparation and management, Hertzberg has worked on high-profile bankruptcy proceedings including Lehman Brothers and Blockbuster. She was in 2019 named president of Insol International, the worldwide federation of national associations of accountants and lawyers specializing in turnaround and insolvency.

Goode is also an adjunct lecturer at Harvard University, where he teaches a course on sustainability management.

Svec brings more than 30 years of experience in ESG, investor relations, and corporate communications. He previously spent nearly 22 years at Peabody Energy, the world’s largest private sector coal company, most recently serving as SVP of global investor and corporate relations. Prior to that, he was director of investor relations and communications at Ziegler Coal Holding Company and a communications specialist at Anheuser-Busch.

Hertzberg said, “Our ESG practice complements the firm’s key lines of service to help clients maximize valuation, reduce the cost of capital, manage risks and strengthen supply chains. Rich’s and Vic’s collective expertise catapults our ability to protect and create value for clients at every stage of their ESG journey. Together with them, I look forward to helping our clients build better companies.”
