Joe Holman leads Withum's new ESG consulting practice
Withum, a national accounting and consulting firm, has hired sustainable investing expert Joe Holman as leader of its new environmental, social, and governance (ESG) consulting practice.
Based in New York, Holman brings over 25 years of experience in financial services, including expertise in ESG integration, monitoring, and support services for investment managers and operating companies.
Coleman spent the last three years running his boutique consultancy ESG Administration, which focused on advising alternative investment managers on sustainable investment strategies. The firm's services included developing pre- and post-investment ESG strategy, creating processes for the collection and reporting of ESG data, reporting on portfolio company sustainable practices, and outsourcing data collection and reporting. The company also advised on carbon accounting, including calculating portfolio company emissions.
Before founding his consulting firm, Joe Holman spent one year as global head of allocators at Apex Fund Services, one of the world's largest global administrators. Prior to that he was a managing director at Vistra, where he managed and oversaw the integration of US offices after the Orangefield-Columbus merger. Before that he had spent 12 years at Orangefield-Columbus Fund Services, where he latterly served as CEO.
Earlier in his career, Holman spent 14 years at Rothstein Kass (now KPMG) where he was latterly a partner.
He holds an MBA from Rutgers University and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Holman is a certified public accountant and holds fundamentals of sustainability accounting (FSA) and global reporting initiative (GRI) credentials.
Holman will lead the newly formed ESG practice at Withum, which will help companies and investment managers develop, implement, and maintain their own ESG programs.
“Building strategic service offerings are always exciting for the firm,” said Bill Hagaman, managing partner and CEO of Withum. “By adding ESG Consulting Services to our advisory suite, we created an initiative that enhances the innovative, value-added services our clients expect while aligning perfectly with our firm's values.”
The move builds on the firm’s recent acquisition of Maffei, Masiello & Company, a CPA and advisory firm based in Mendham, NJ. The deal added two partners and 13 team members to Withum’s Whippany office.
Founded in 1974 and based in Princeton, NJ, Withum is one of the 25 largest accounting and consulting firms in the country. The firm has more than 1,400 team members across 15 US offices and annual revenues of $318 million.
