KPMG hires Bryan Rimmke as tax principal
Bryan Rimmke has joined KPMG’s Washington national tax practice as a principal.
Based in Washington, DC, Rimmke joins the Big Four firm’s passthrough tax offering, which is led by Deborah Fields. Passthrough business entities are typically sole proprietorships and partnerships that pass income straight to owners and avoid the double taxation of standard corporations.
Rimmke brings more than 12 years of experience in tax policy, law, and consulting. He most recently was an attorney-advisor at the Treasury Department’s office of tax policy, where he developed guidance on the domestic partnership tax aspects of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and the CARES Act of 2020.
Before that, he spent six years in the national tax practice of EY, where he was a senior manager specializing in the taxation of partnerships and limited liability companies. He began his career in the IRS’ office of chief counsel, where he spent three years as an attorney in the passthroughs and special industries division.Rimmke has also spent the last eight years as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where he co-teaches a course on private equity and hedge fund taxation and transactions.
He holds a master of laws from Georgetown University, a juris doctor from Michigan State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Hope College.
KPMG’s Washington national tax team supports clients with analysis, issue development, and advice related to international, federal, state, and local tax practice and administration.
The practice recently hired Karey Barton, a former senior leader in the Texas Comptroller’s office, as a managing director.
