FTI Consulting adds crypto expert Jeremy Sheridan as managing director
FTI Consulting has hired Jeremy Sheridan as a managing director in its blockchain and digital assets practice. He is based in Washington, DC.
Sheridan brings more than a decade of experience in regulatory affairs to FTI, where he will serve as lead investigator and testifying expert for disputes relating to blockchain, cryptocurrency, and other digital assets.
The riskiness and wild-west nature of the cryptoasset market has been highlighted by the recent collapse of the FTX crypto exchange. Prominent economists view cryptoassets as, at best, a way to scam low-information consumers, and at worst, a simple avenue for laundering money and financing illegal activity. Either way, they hold little social utility.
Sheridan is a criminal investigator with extensive experience leading cryptocurrency investigations and law enforcement efforts to combat financial crime. He also has expertise in designing programs for security operations and aligning cryptocurrency business operations with emerging regulations.
He joins FTI from Prime Trust, a provider of financial infrastructure APIs for fintech and digital asset firms, where he spent one year as VP of regulatory affairs. Before that, Sheridan spent over a decade with the US Secret Service, which has the dual duties of protecting political figures and the nation’s financial and payment systems.
Sheridan latterly served as assistant director in the office of investigations, where he led the agency’s global investigative mission to protect and secure the nation’s financial infrastructure and payment systems. He also created and implemented the agency’s first dedicated digital asset investigative unit.
Sheridan has a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from the University of Arizona.
“We continue to see increased demand for testifying experts who understand the technical and operational nuances that arise in blockchain and digital assets disputes,” said Sophie Ross, global head of FTI’s technology division. “This is a rapidly evolving area of specialization, and we’re committed to providing clients with the highest standard of expertise and excellence. We welcome Jeremy as an addition to our growing team, which includes some of the world’s foremost blockchain and digital assets experts.”
Sheridan added, “Even without substantial industry regulation or legal precedence, there has been a tremendous amount of growth and investment in cryptocurrency and digital assets. FTI Technology is well positioned to support clients with mitigating their risks within the industry while helping them build strategy for market success despite regulatory uncertainty. I look forward to collaborating with the team and our clients to help shape the future of this exciting space.”
