Atwell buys engineering consultancy Blueline
Atwell, a design and engineering consulting firm, has acquired Blueline, a Kirkland, WA-based civil engineering, land use planning, and landscape architecture firm.
Founded in 2003, Blueline works on commercial developments, multifamily projects, residential subdivisions, and public works projects primarily in Washington State. The firm has 75 professionals across four offices in Washington.
Atwell’s acquisition of Blueline will significantly expand its presence in the Pacific Northwest, where it currently has a Portland, OR office. The deal will also expand Atwell’s regional capability to serve residential, commercial, industrial, and energy clients.
AEC Advisors, an M&A consultancy focusing on architecture, engineering, and consulting (AEC) firms, initiated the transaction and acted as a financial advisor to Blueline.
“The acquisition of Blueline is our fourth transaction in the past four months. We’re excited to continue our geographic expansion throughout the United States, taking another major step in our long-term strategic growth plan,” said Brian Wenzel, CEO of Atwell.
The above-mentioned transactions include the purchase of Dempsey Surveying Company of Cleveland, OH, and Ben Dyer Associates, a Maryland-based engineering firm.
Atwell also in February announced the opening of a New York office and in January announced the opening of a Jacksonville location.
“Atwell's proven history of an employee-centered culture, similar emphasis on strong relationships with clients, and their exceptional growth will provide amazing opportunities for our employees and more services to better meet the needs of our clients,” said Brian Darrow, CEO of Blueline. “We are so excited to start this next chapter of Blueline's story!”
Atwell has more than 1,400 employees nationwide providing consulting, engineering, and construction services to clients in real estate, power and energy, oil and gas, and infrastructure. The firm’s turnkey offerings span planning, project and program management, landscape architecture, engineering, land surveying, and environmental compliance.
