KPMG US has appointed Rema Serafi as vice chair – tax, effective November 15, 2023.

Serafi, who has been at KPMG for 27 years, succeeds Greg Engel, who is retiring after four decades with the Big Four accountancy. Serafi will also serve on the firm’s management committee.

She is the first woman to serve as vice chair of tax at KPMG US.

“Our tax business plays a critical role in the makeup of our multi-disciplinary model and overall growth of our firm. Rema's collaborative mindset, sharp focus on investing in technology and talent, and client-centric approach make her the right fit for the role, at the right time," said Laura Newinski, deputy chair and chief operating officer of KPMG US.

Kevin Jackson will succeed Serafi in her previous role of national managing partner for tax. Jackson previously served as US tax practice leader for markets, overseeing all of the tax business line’s geographic business units.

"We're coupling talent with diverse skillsets and cutting-edge technologies like generative AI to help our clients address these market challenges and position them for growth and success. I look forward to assuming this role during such an exciting time for the tax profession."

Serafi has served as national managing principal for tax since 2020. Before that, she led the economic and valuation services practice for five years, driving double-digit growth.

Serafi has a master’s degree in international economics from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College.
