Kroll hires Dave Burg as head of cyber risk
Kroll, a risk and financial advisory consulting firm, has hired Dave Burg as global head of cyber risk. He is based in Washington, DC.
Burg brings more than two decades of cybersecurity experience to the role, where he will oversee and expand Kroll’s cyber risk practice, which includes offerings in security advisory, validation and assessments, managed detection and response, threat intelligence, incident response, data analytics, and breach notification.
He succeeds Jason Smolanoff, who remains at Kroll as a senior advisor.
Burg joins from EY, where he spent the last six years and served as a principal and head of cybersecurity for EY Americas, overseeing reactive and proactive cyber consulting engagements. Before that, he spent 12 years at PwC, where he was global cybersecurity leader. In the role, he supported corporate, law firm, and government clients on cybercrime investigations, data analysis, transformation, and operational initiatives.
Burg has an MBA from the College of William & Mary and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
“Under Dave’s leadership, our Cyber business will continue to push the boundaries of innovation to protect our clients from the growing number of cyber risks and bad actors,” said Jacob Silverman, CEO of Kroll. “Kroll has built an agile Cyber team comprised of top experts in the space, and I’m confident that Dave’s insights and experience will be invaluable to the business’s continued growth.”
Aside from an array of consulting capabilities, the firm’s cyber practice includes Kroll Responder, a managed detection and response (MDR) offering with 24/7 security monitoring and incident response tools. Kroll Responder was bolstered by the 2021 acquisition of Redscan, a UK-based cybersecurity services provider.
“I look forward to working closely with the broader Kroll team to extend our unique capabilities and insights and take our Cyber business to new heights,” Burg said. “The world of cyberattacks is ever-evolving, and I’m proud to lead a team whose mission is to secure every organization from cybercrime.”
