KPMG launches global center of excellence for island healthcare
KPMG last month announced the launch of a global center of excellence (COE) for island healthcare.
The new COE, which is in Hamilton, Bermuda, will serve as a hub for KPMG firms to share experience and learning in island healthcare. It will bring together professionals from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Crown Dependencies, and Mediterranean islands.
“Delivering accessible, affordable, high-quality care can be particularly challenging for island communities throughout the world, given their geographical locations and smaller scale. This situation magnifies wider health challenges, including rising population health needs, the growing complexity and cost of care, and health workforce pressures,” said Dr. Edward Fitzgerald, head of healthcare and life sciences for KPMG Islands Group.
Fitzgerald will lead the COE, which will identify and adapt leading healthcare practices for islands as well as undertake research to develop island-based approaches. The center will also facilitate networking between island healthcare stakeholders and provide access to the KPMG global healthcare network, which comprises over 5,000 audit, tax, and advisory professionals from 70+ member firms, including nearly 200 clinicians.
KPMG says the COE will draw on international experience from KPMG professionals’ work on islands around the world, including Australasia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Ocean.
“With healthcare systems facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities worldwide, KPMG International recognizes the critical need for specialized knowledge and innovative approaches. The establishment of our global center of excellence for island healthcare in Bermuda underscores KPMG's dedication to delivering value in healthcare globally,” said Dr. Anna van Poucke, global head of healthcare for KPMG International.
The center will work with governments, regulators, payors, providers, NGOs, and development organizations on areas including universal health coverage, operational improvement, integrated care models, HR, digital health, climate health, and training.
