StoneTurn, a Boston-based risk and disputes consulting firm, has hired Steve Kopeck as a partner in its cybersecurity practice in Chicago.

Kopeck brings more than 20 years of experience in cyber investigations, forensics, and incident response. He has worked with clients in healthcare, education, life sciences, and financial services on engagements in compliance, due diligence, monitoring, identity management, and crisis communications.

Kopeck joins StoneTurn from Kroll, where he spent eight years and was a managing director in the cyber risk practice. Before that, he spent four years at Verizon’s Risk division, where he was a principal consultant managing a team of advisors focusing on data breach investigations.

Earlier in his career, Kopeck spent nearly a decade in the US Secret Service, where he latterly served in the cyber intelligence section and was liaison to the US computer emergency readiness team at the Department of Homeland Security.

He began his career as a police office in Fairfax County.

Kopeck has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and criminal justice/law enforcement administration from Marymount University.

“Today’s organizations are facing increased cyber threats—in volume and complexity—that require deeply rooted knowledge and specialized skills to stay ahead of nefarious actors,” said Luke Tenery, partner, StoneTurn. “Steve’s addition to our team broadens our bench of experts, helping further our commitment to solving our clients’ most sensitive, complex, and emerging issues.”

StoneTurn’s cybersecurity practice works with organizations on threat and risk prevention, detection, mitigation, remediation, and transformation.

The wider company provides law firms, corporations, and government clients with consulting in forensics and investigations, risk and compliance, data and technology, economics and disputes, and strategy.

StoneTurn has approximately 200 employees across offices in the United States, UK, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, and Singapore.

The firm earlier this year welcomed Stefan Boedeker as a partner in Los Angeles.
